Cold loops applied to bipolar resectoscope: A safe "one-step" myomectomy for treatment of submucosal myomas with intramural development

AIM: To assess the safety and efficacy of cold loop myomectomy applied to bipolar resectoscope to perform "one-step" myomectomy of submucosal myomas with intramural involvement. METHODS: Seventy-two patients with at least one symptomatic G1 or G2 myoma (Wamsteker's classification) underwent cold loop myomectomy from January 2011 to January 2013. All surgical procedures were performed using a 26Fr resectoscope and bipolar energy source. At one month after the procedure, all patients underwent an office hysteroscopy check-up. Parasitic myomas after laparoscopic surgery: an emerging complication in the use of morcellator? Description of four cases

Objective To report the development of parasitic myomas after the use of a morcellator. Design Retrospective study. Setting Tertiary care referral center for the treatment of benign gynecologic pathologies. Patient(s) Women undergoing surgery for uterine fibroids. Intervention(s) Chart review. Uterine glomeruloid hemangioma in a patient without POEMS syndrome.

Cutaneous glomeruloid hemangioma is a hallmark of POEMS syndrome. These patients have elevated serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor. The authors report an extracutaneous uterine glomeruloid hemangioma in an 82-year-old woman with a history of breast and endometrial carcinomas. Within the lumen of myometrial vessels, a lobular, glomeruloid proliferation of capillary-like CD31 and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-1-positive endothelial cells was found. Optimized culture conditions for tissue explants of uterine leiomyoma

Carcinosarcomas (CS) in gynecology are very infrequent and represent only 2–5% of uterine cancers. Despite surgical cytoreduction and subsequent chemotherapy being the primary treatment for uterine CS, the overall five-year survival rate is 30 ± 9% and recurrence is extremely common (50–80%).
